COFFEE PROFILE
This coffee is produced at the Tirra Estate in the San Marcos district of Tarrazu, one of Costa Rica’s most renowned coffee-growing regions. The combination of fertile volcanic soil, high altitudes, and meticulous cultivation creates an exceptional profile that reflects the region’s natural beauty and dedication to quality.
Farm and Region
Tirra Estate is owned by the Coopetarrazu cooperative and sits at elevations of 1,500 to 1,600 meters above sea level. Over 60% of the 100-hectare estate is dedicated to coffee production, while the remainder focuses on ecological conservation and research into innovative farming practices.
The Tarrazu region is famed for its coffee—a rural community where traditional values meet modern techniques. Optimum climate conditions and highly skilled producers ensure that coffees from this area are celebrated worldwide.
Cultivation and Processing
The estate’s cherries are handpicked at peak ripeness and processed using the Natural method at the Coopetarrazu mill. This involves drying the whole cherry, concentrating its sugars and imparting vibrant, fruity flavors to the final cup. The meticulous attention to detail ensures a consistent and high-quality product.
Sustainability and Innovation
Coopetarrazu is dedicated to promoting sustainable farming practices. Through its ‘Coffee, Culture, Quality of Life’ Sustainability plan, the cooperative provides farmers with free seeds, soil analyses, and education on reforestation and ecosystem management. They also support local youth with educational programs focused on biodiversity and the critical role of species like birds and insects in maintaining a healthy coffee ecosystem.
Seasonal migrant workers are welcomed with on-site housing and community festivals celebrating indigenous cultural heritage, fostering a sense of unity and cultural respect.
