Panama Geisha from Auromar Estate: A Taste of Excellence and Ethical Craft
Embark on a journey with each sip of Auromar Estate Geisha, where the story behind the coffee is as rich as its complex flavor. Originating from Roberto Brenes' Finca La Aurora, located in the remote highlands of Piedra Candela in Chiriquí, Panama, this coffee reflects Brenes’ commitment to quality, sustainability, and community.
The Geisha Legacy
Geisha's reputation for excellence began in Ethiopia's forests, traveled through East Africa, and reached global acclaim when it arrived in Panama. Since winning the prestigious "Best of Panama" competition in 2005, Panama Geisha has captivated coffee lovers with its delicate floral notes, bright acidity, and nuanced sweetness. Auromar’s Geisha exemplifies these traits and stands out for its depth and elegance—earning top rankings, including first place in 2022.
The Origin
Roberto Brenes isn’t your typical coffee farmer. After a successful career in finance, he pursued his passion in retirement, establishing Finca La Auromar in the "Geisha Golden Triangle." This unique microclimate, created by high-altitude Hass avocado and endemic forest trees, stabilizes temperatures and preserves biodiversity, making each harvest exceptional. The farm, perched at 1570–1770 MASL, uses heavy shading and sustainable practices, allowing cherries to mature slowly for unmatched flavor complexity.
Human Connection and Commitment
At Auromar Estate, every step from cherry selection to export-ready beans reflects the dedication of the Gnabe-Bugle natives, who painstakingly hand-pick each ripe cherry. Through fair wages, training, and incentive programs, Roberto ensures that the indigenous workers benefit directly from their care and attention to the coffee trees. The farm goes beyond ethical practices by offering educational and health services to the workers' families, reflecting a commitment to uplift the community while producing world-class coffee.
The Ironman Geisha Washed Process
Named "Ironman" in honor of Brenes’ athletic passion, this washed Geisha undergoes meticulous preparation. Early and late season cherries are fermented for 12-18 hours after de-pulping, then sun-dried and carefully selected by hand before a six-week resting period to enhance flavor complexity.
A Vision of Sustainability
Roberto’s vision extends beyond his farm. In addition to preserving highland forest and replanting native species, Auromar contributes to surrounding communities, from improving infrastructure to supporting wildlife conservation. The farm’s holistic approach safeguards not only its pristine environment but also the livelihoods of the families who work there.
