A bright and expressive cup from the Peruvian Amazon, with floral and honeyed aromas complemented by notes of caramel and red fruit. Flavours of red apple, toffee, and sweet citrus are balanced by a medium body and gentle acidity, finishing clean and smooth. This single-origin lot showcases the delicate clarity and nuanced profile of high-quality Peruvian coffees.

About the Coffee

Peru Amazonas GR1 Regional 30kg (1603) is sourced from smallholder farmers in the Amazonas region, one of Peru’s lesser-known but increasingly recognised coffee-growing areas. Farms are typically family-run and focus on selective harvesting and careful post-harvest handling, ensuring that only the ripest cherries contribute to the Regional Grade 1 lot.

Cultivation and Processing

Coffee in Amazonas thrives at elevations between 1,200 and 1,700 masl, where fertile soils, forested microclimates, and cool nights allow cherries to mature slowly, developing complex sugars and flavours. Farmers grow primarily Typica, Caturra, and Bourbon varietals, hand-picking ripe cherries for processing.

The lot is fully washed, with cherries depulped and fermented to remove mucilage before being washed and dried on patios or raised beds. This careful process highlights the coffee’s sweetness, clarity, and balance, resulting in a clean, nuanced cup.

The Legacy of Coffee in Peru

Coffee production in Amazonas is central to local livelihoods, supporting smallholder families and fostering community development. Peruvian farmers have embraced sustainable and traceable practices, focusing on quality and consistency to meet specialty standards. Lots like Amazonas GR1 Regional demonstrate the potential of the region to produce expressive, high-quality coffees with distinctive regional character.
