Nebilyer Valley – Togoba Kofi Honey Processed Arabica
In the mist-laced Nebilyer Valley of Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands, where the soil is rich, the climate is forgiving, and the culture is deep-rooted, a new style of coffee is emerging—sweet, complex, and full of promise. This is Togoba Kofi’s Honey Processed Arabica—a beautiful example of how traditional growing methods and modern processing innovation can come together in a cup.
A Story of Vision and Transformation
Launched in 2022, Togoba Kofi Limited (TKL) is a Papua New Guinean-owned coffee company founded by Fredrick Koldop, a local entrepreneur from the Togoba area. The company has rapidly evolved into one of the country’s most exciting coffee producers—operating the Kilima plantation in the Nebilyer Valley, a pilot farm in Kuk, and collaborating with smallholder farmers across the Highlands.
TKL is more than a coffee company—it is a vehicle for change. Through training programs, seed distribution, plantation rehabilitation, and even road infrastructure development, TKL is helping build a stronger, more connected coffee community in PNG. With an export license granted in 2023, Togoba Kofi now proudly delivers “Made in PNG” products to both domestic and international markets.
Innovation in the Drying Beds: The Honey Process Approach
This honey processed coffee is a step away from traditional washed lots and a leap into a more flavour-forward future. In honey processing, the outer skin of the coffee cherry is removed, but some of the sticky, sugar-rich mucilage—resembling honey—is left on the bean during drying. This method creates a beautiful balance of the crispness found in washed coffees and the syrupy depth of naturals.
Carefully dried on raised beds or covered patios, often under partial shade, these beans absorb and retain natural sweetness while developing subtle layers of fruit, spice, and caramel tones. The result is a distinctly PNG profile—earthy yet elegant, bold yet balanced.
