Rwanda Nyungwe GR1 Washed: Highland Clarity & Forest-Grown Elegance
From the lush mountain landscapes surrounding Nyungwe Forest National Park, this Nyungwe GR1 Washed lot captures the refined acidity and pristine sweetness that define Rwanda’s highest-quality coffees. Produced by dedicated smallholder farmers cultivating coffee along the forested highlands, this Grade 1 selection represents the top export tier—carefully sorted for minimal defects and exceptional cup clarity.
Nyungwe coffees are celebrated for their vibrant fruit tones, silky texture, and sparkling structure, shaped by volcanic soils and cool equatorial elevations.
Process: Fully washed—ripe cherries are selectively hand-picked, pulped, and fermented before being thoroughly washed and dried on raised beds. This meticulous method highlights brightness, transparency, and refined sweetness in the cup.
Altitude: Typically 1,600–2,000 masl. The elevated terrain and temperate mountain climate allow for slow cherry development, enhancing density and flavour complexity.
Harvest & Processing: Farmers selectively hand-harvest ripe red cherries and deliver them to local washing stations. After controlled fermentation and washing, parchment coffee is dried carefully on African beds to ensure even moisture reduction. Final hand-sorting guarantees Grade 1 export standards.
